If anyone was unable to access the forum for some time today, or got a "Not Secure" sign in the Browser address bar, I'm sorry for that.

Our Certificate expired today. Usually I get a warning a couple of days before that happens, but not this time. So I had to install a new certificate. Relearning that process took some time. But, we're good now.

Strangely, I couldn't get to this site today via Safari which is my usual browser. It claims an expired certificate, but I had no trouble with Start Page although I got a similar message.

We rely on free SSL Certificates and encryption to secure our site. These certificates have a validity of 90 days and need to be renewed before expiry. Usually I get an email reminder and am able to renew it without fuss. But this time there was no reminder and the certificate expired without notice. In such event, a renewal is more cumbersome than a new certificate. That is what I did. Since I had acquired the certificate about 9 months ago, I had completely forgotten the procedure to get one. It took me some brain wracking to get another one. So, I'll make a word document on how to do it, just in case if that happens again.

As John experienced, certain browsers will not display the pages and warn that the site is "insecure". Google is moving towards making this the norm in some time. The workaround for that (should you ever require it) is, the warning page will have a "Advanced" settings button somewhere. Click on that and then another option to "Open insecure content" will come up. Different browsers may use use different terms, but that is the general idea. If you click the link Open Insecure Content, you will be able to access the forum again.
