I found this old study which is of interest to us. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the full article so it's just the abstract,

It is too bad that surgeons do not read these types of articles.  When I had some minor surgery several years ago, the doctor would not allow me to continue wearing my insulin pump.  Once I was back in my room I demanded to be able to reconnect to the pump.  And when I was allowed to be dismissed for home some 8 hours later my blood sugar was still 270 (14.96) in spite of numerous corrections by the pump.  I was not happy with 'their' version of blood glucose management at all.

I hope you filed a complaint! That is malpractice!

Shanny - I did file a complaint with the hospital and received a phone call from the head of the Nurses department.
Her basic comment, repeated several times, was "I'm sorry".  Well, ok, being sorry doesn't fix anything but it is a start.
