Well, the answer is that there usually is a relationship because the diet can affect both for most  people.  I underlined most because it is not the same for everyone.  I read that about 20% of people on LCHF do not see an improvement in lipids.  I did see an improvement in my lipids but it took about 2 years of LCHF to see an improvement and at first my lipids went quite high.  Once again it is a reminder that we are all different but most people do see an improvement in lipid values when restricting carbs.  Because of my experience I would say that if you don't see an improvement at first, don't give up on it.

There sure is. it is a known fact that carbs convert to glucose. A higher carb diet would mean relatively high blood sugars even in non diabetics. Then an adequate insulin response is called for. Once glucose has been stored in the liver & the muscles to its threshold, the rest is packaged as triglycerides & accumulated as fat in the body. So there is a direct connect between high BG & high TG. Many doctors are now beginning to believe, it's the TG v/s HDL which are the more important numbers rather than the LDL alone.

For me, I think it's a combination of low carb and exercising. Losing weight and sticking with low carb seems to be lowering the lipids and I would much rather be doing that than taking more meds! The medical community is way to happy to throw lipids at people instead of trying to do things naturally first.
